Skill vs Planning in Your Garden
This post starts sharing a quote from Seth Godin to set the tone for this short and sweet post.
"If you're a gardener planting orange trees in Ottawa, and nothing's growing, it's possible to beat yourself up, burn yourself out and say: I'm a bad gardener.
Or,
You could realize that oranges aren't easy to grow in Ottawa. You could either move to Cuba or plant winter wheat instead.
But don't beat yourself up just because the climate doesn't match your seeds."
-- Seth Godin
This is the right approach to take in gardening if you want your plants to look healthy and beautiful. Said another way: you want to plant plants that do well in your neck of the woods.
If you plant Rhododendrons, Hostas, and Ferns in full sun for example, they won't be happy, even if you provide the right acid soil type they prefer. If you plant these plants in the shadier/under the canopy of the forest ecology they prefer, with the right soil, they will do well and most likely thrive when planted and cared for properly.

I’ve been working with James since 2016. He’s been one of the main people who has helped revive the garden around my 25-year-old home. James has a strong work ethic and is very professional in both the way he writes up his bids before projects, and then follows through completely with everything he’s agreed to do.
The icing on the cake for me is that James really has an artist’s eye when it comes to pruning. Even with overgrown bushes that other gardeners write off and feel should just be removed, James sees something worth saving and goes to work on them. With his care and patience, a beautiful bush emerges that suddenly becomes a focal point in your garden. I’ve worked with a number of gardeners in the last couple years, but James is one of only a few whom I call on again and again when I want things done well and done right.
