Planting Tips
Planting is the most important time to go the extra mile when it comes to preparing the plant and the soil. This applies especially with trees and shrubs that you are establishing for many years to come, because you can't just dig them up and move them after a certain point.
Heir on the side of planting mounded up or high vs planting your plants low into the ground. When you plant too low you can often bury the feeder roots and tree well zone that is a critical place to keep above the soil and exposed for the life of your plant. This is a breathing zone your plants need, and when it gets buried this can often be the reason why your plant is dying or starting to show signs of disease.

When you buy potted plants from the nursery remember to get your hands into the roots and work them out. This will get out any root-bound-ness that may be present eliminated before you put them in the ground.
Watering in your transplants well until they get rooted and happy in their new soil is important. This is the time they need the most moisture.
Buy your plants from a nursery that actually cares about your plants, knows their stuff, and has a nursery that is well maintained and cared for.
Lastly… remember that spring and fall are generally the best times to do planting projects. Fall is especially good because you get your plants into the ground with winter and spring wet weather to do some of the watering for you. These seasons are the best because you give your plants a few months to dig in and get rooted in their new soil homes before they are exposed to the more extreme temperatures of summer and winter.
