Good Stress / Bad Stress
Stress has gotten a bad rap. Sometimes people throw the baby out with the bathwater, or do black and white splitting thinking on this thing called stress that causes us humans problems and lack of ease in our bodies, minds, and spirits. There are shades of grey in the world of stress like many things in life. Let’s not blame everything on stress, the same way some people say to kill the ego or that the ego is the enemy.
The source of where I originally learned about how there are good and bad forms of stress came from Mitchell May. This came from his Healing, Living, and Being audio series. I recommend listening to this classic 6 tape recording if you can find a copy.
Here is my shooting from the hip list of some examples you can use to help you remember there are stressors that are bad, and stressors that are good.
Bad Stress
Consuming fast food - junk food - processed food - seed oils - hydrogenated oils - refined sugars - over eating - toxic relationships.
Black mold exposure.
EMF and 5G exposure.
Watching the news and listening to the media - independent media and people who tell the truth are not included. Even though the truth right now is bad and stressful, you can do something positive and be proactive to be the change you wish to see in the world in the face of the crap we are facing today.
Listening to heavy death metal - Metallica the album Metallica is not included.
Spending time with vampires and fair weather people.
Letting people physically touch you you don’t want to be touched by.
Taking on debt with no purpose or plan.
Drug and alcohol use and abuse.
Good Stress
SEX with someone you love and care about. When you really feel into it, sex is a highly stressful activity, and we all know it feels good. This is positive form of stress that is also one of the most creative and sacred aspects of our being. It literally has the power to create LIFE.
LAUGHTER - Laughing until tears are rolling down your face is the best if you can let yourself go when something is that funny and moves you!
Pursuing meaningful work, and doing whatever you have to do to make ends meet, be responsible, and the creator of your destiny and dreams.
Saying yes to things you know you need to do that scare you. This can be moving towards your fears instead of running away. And I am not talking about being irresponsible, taking un-calculated risks, or doing stupid shit.
Making and holding steady in boundaries to protect your time and energy.
I have found that many good stresses are often the act of saying no to, and having uncomfortable conversations to protect your time and space.
I recently let someone know we were past my complimentary initial phone consultation. It got my heart racing to text him back after he started texting me past that point because I could feel where he was coming from was off.
I listened to the whisper inside me, then I let him know I needed to be paid for my time if he wants to ask me any more questions or have any more of my time. This was stressful in the moment, and makes me less stressed with now one less negative in my life because I didn’t procrastinate, got it done, and set the boundary around the value of my time. This in turned freed up more of my time, space, and energy to stay focused on my highest priorities.
