The Content for a Healthy Garden
My last post covered the context for a healthy and beautiful garden. This post I'm offering you the fundamental content to plug into that context for creating and maintaining a healthy and beautiful garden.
What goes into making your garden healthy and beautiful?
The soil is the foundation for the health of your garden and land. You need to have rich soil to support your plants in being healthy and growing to their full potential. This is done by periodically amending and fertilizing your garden beds with the appropriate compost and fertilizers specific to the plants growing in your beds.
Sunlight - All plants, aside from shade lovers like Fern and Hellebore, need adequate sunlight.
Water - Your plants also need adequate water, aside from the drought tolerant plants like Ceanothus and Manzanita.
Air and Space - Just like humans need air and space to breathe so do plants, aside from ground covers and creepers that bunch up and spread. Even at that, well drained soil that can breathe underneath the foliage is important to any plant whether it be a tree, shrub, or ground cover. It's a good practice to learn about the long term growth characteristics of what you plant before you do your planting, especially when it comes to large shrubs and trees that aren't easy to just dig up and move after they are large and well established.
This is my approach to gardening - dedicated to enriching your garden from the ground up!
